PARTITA for 8 VOICES & WIND ENSEMBLE
Partita for 8 Voices & Wind Ensemble is the wind transcription of Caroline Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize-winning work Partita for 8 Voices (2013) as performed by Roomful of Teeth.
The work was completed as Kaitlin Bove’s DMA project at University of Kentucky in 2019. It received its world premiere by the University of Kentucky Wind Symphony and members of the University of Kentucky Choristers on March 5, 2019 at Singletary Center of the Arts on the campus of University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.

JAW HARPS
If you are interested in performing Partita for 8 Voices & Wind Ensemble, please note that there is an optional jaw harp portion of Courante meant to be played by the eight spoken word vocalists from Allemande and Passacaglia. The set of jaw harps needed to perform Partita are 2 harps pitched in G, 2 harps pitched in D, and 4 harps pitched in B.
This set of 8 harps was custom-built and assembled by Jamie Bebb at The Harpery. I highly recommend contacting Jamie for any and all jaw harp needs!
If you are interested in renting the original set of harps used in the world premiere of Partita for 8 Voices & Wind Ensemble (seen right), please fill out the contact form. I will be happy to rent the custom set for your performance with a contract and reasonable rental fee.
Below is a video that includes the description of the use of jaw harps in Partita for 8 Voices & Wind Ensemble as well as a technical explanation of jaw harp performance and a demonstration of the three types of harps that comprise the Partita set. Please enjoy!
*Sorry to Caroline Shaw for pronouncing her name wrong 10+ times in the video … it’s CaroLINE - I know that now!
